  • Boll Sampling: Randomly crack open 10-20 green bolls per acre. If more than 10% show larvae or mining damage, initiate spraying.
  • 3. Chemical Control Options

To effectively manage resistant Pink Bollworm, strong contact and synergistic combination insecticides are required to kill the larvae before they bore into the bolls.

Protack-44 (Profenophos + Cypermethrin): A highly synergistic combination insecticide. Profenophos (an organophosphate) and Cypermethrin (a pyrethroid) work together to provide powerful knockdown and extended residual control, effectively targeting resistant bollworm populations. Current (Lambda-Cyhalothrin 5% EC): A potent synthetic pyrethroid that provides rapid knockdown of adult moths and newly hatched larvae before they can enter the bolls. View Product Details →

    4. Application Timing & Best Practices

The window of opportunity for chemical control is very narrow. Insecticides must be applied during the "egg hatch" stage, before the neonate larvae bore into the bolls (which usually happens within 24-48 hours of hatching).

Note: Always consult the product label for Protack-44 and Current to ensure accurate dosage rates. Ensure full coverage of the plant canopy during spraying.

    5. IPM Integration

Chemical control must be paired with strict cultural practices:

    • Terminate the crop promptly after the final picking. Do not extend the crop season.
    • Deep summer ploughing to expose pupae hiding in the soil to harsh sunlight and birds.
    • Avoid stacking cotton stalks near the field, as they serve as a reservoir for pupating bollworms.
