Adult whiteflies are tiny, moth-like insects with white wings. When infested cotton plants are disturbed, a cloud of whiteflies will fly up. The nymphs are scale-like, flat, and usually found on the underside of leaves. Heavy infestations result in yellowing, curling, and stunted growth of the cotton leaves.
CLCuV is a viral disease transmitted exclusively by the whitefly. Once a cotton plant is infected, there is no cure, and yield losses can exceed 50%. The virus causes upward or downward curling of leaf margins, vein thickening, and the formation of cup-shaped outgrowths on the underside of leaves. The only way to manage CLCuV is to aggressively control the whitefly vector before it can spread the virus.
To combat whitefly effectively, you need systemic and contact insecticides that disrupt their feeding and lifecycle.
AC-Power (Diafenthiuron 50% WP): A highly effective thiourea insecticide and acaricide. AC-Power acts through contact, ingestion, and vapor action, making it exceptional for controlling whiteflies on the underside of leaves where sprays may not directly reach. Buy AC-Power →
AC-Pride (Acetamiprid 20% SP): A fast-acting neonicotinoid that provides strong systemic control. It quickly moves through the plant tissues, ensuring that feeding whiteflies consume the lethal dose. Buy AC-Pride →
Active (Imidacloprid 17.8% SL): Another powerful systemic neonicotinoid. Active provides long-lasting protection against sucking pests, making it a staple in early-season cotton pest management. Buy Active →
Achieving good coverage on the underside of the leaves is critical for whitefly control. Use a high-volume sprayer and ensure the spray canopy is fully penetrated. To prevent resistance, alternate between AC-Power (Thiourea), AC-Pride/Active (Neonicotinoids), and other chemical groups.
Note: Always refer to the product label of AC-Power, AC-Pride, or Active for precise application rates depending on pest severity and the growth stage of the cotton.
